Types of Breast Implants Saline Implants and Silicone Implants

There are two types of breast implants: saline and silicone.

Saline implants are silicone shells filled with sterile salt water (saline).
The saline implant is implanted deflated under the breast tissue and filled with sterile saline when it is in place.
The saline implant can be round or tear drop shaped, and is generally placed in the submuscular position to achieve a more natural feel.

Silicone implants are silicone shells filled with a plastic gel (silicone).
A modern, silicone filled implant, contains a cohesive gel, which has a slightly firmer consistency, which varies amongst manufacturers.
This can give a very natural, firm, youthful breast feel, and of course is suitable for the shaped implants, as the silicone implant holds its shape due to the consistency of the gel.

When deciding on the nature of the type of breast implant, it is also important to choose the size carefully.
Breast implants, like natural breasts, come in different shapes and sizes. Some implants are round, and some are tear-drop shaped. Implants also come in a variety of profiles, or cup sizes.

The size you select should complement your body type.

With breast implants that are too large for the amount of breast tissue you have, the implants’ edges may be visible through your skin after your operation or the implant may be more easily felt.
Also, breast implants that are excessive in size may increase the effects of gravity on your body, which may cause your breasts to sag prematurely.
