Sore Breasts Sore Breast Causes
Sore breasts and tingling breasts are the earliest signs that you’re pregnant.
You may have noticed this from about three or four weeks of pregnancy.
Your breasts may become so sore that even your clothes brushing against them is unbearable.
The soreness will lessen after the first trimester.
Sore breasts do not necessarily mean that a woman is pregnant.
Many women experience some tenderness and swelling in their breasts every month right before their period, or even at ovulation.
Sore breasts can also be caused by a hormonal imbalance or starting, stopping, or changing birth control pills midway through a cycle.
Talk to your doctor, if you are concerned.
Other causes of sore breast:
- Imbalance in fat levels – An imbalance in the fats in your cells may make your breast tissue more sensitive to circulating hormones in the body causing sore breast.
- Medication – Drugs like oral contraceptives, drugs used for Hormone Replacement Therapy and some antidepressants.
- Very large breasts may also cause pain because of their weight. You may also feel pain in the neck and shoulders as well.
- Breast cancer – Breast pain can also be a sign of breast cancer, but it is usually a late sign in advanced cases.
- Menopause.
How to reduce the soreness?
- Look for a good, supportive bra, but not an underwired bra.
- Have your bra fitted by a specialist, perhaps in a department store or maternity shop. If no one is available to help you, measure under your breasts for size and around the fullest part of your breast for the cup.
- Drink chamomile tea which has a diuretic effect that helps you get rid of the excess water your body is holding
- Practice some relaxation techniques – stress and anxiety can worsen breast pain.
- Eliminate caffeine-rich foods such as coffee, colas, and black tea.
