How to Take Care of Nipple Piercing

Do you know that almost half of the people with nipple piercing end up having their nipples infected? A lot of people find nipple piercings sexy and daring, and a lot of those people actually muster up the courage to face the pain of getting one. Unfortunately, once they get nipple piercing, they often forget to take care of them. Thus, the wound on the nipple becomes a breeding ground for bacteria and gets infected.
It is one thing to endure the pain of getting a piercing, but it is another thing to have to be hospitalized because that piercing got really painful and swollen. This is not meant to scare you from getting the nipple piercing that you want, though. If you want it, go ahead and get it; just do not forget to take care of it while the wound is still healing.
Caring for new nipple piercings is simple enough. Here is what you need to do.
1. Hands off. While the wound is still healing, keep your hands off it. Do not touch it and do not let anyone else touch it, not even while having sex. The hands are germ-carriers and these germs are bad for your piercing. If you have to touch your piercings, make sure that you wash your hands first.
2. Avoid contact with bodily fluids. While the wound is still fresh, you should avoid your nipple piercings from coming into contact with bodily fluids such as saliva or semen. Not only will the contact worsen the pain but will also slow the healing or even infect the wound. Your partner should understand and be considerate.
3. Do not remove the jewelry. Under no circumstances are you to remove the jewelry. New piercings actually close much quickly when still fresh. So, if you replace the jewelry before the wound is healed, you increase the chances of the piercing closing and you may injure yourself in the process. If you are a gal, wait four to six months before changing the jewelry. If you are a guy, two to three months is enough.
4. Avoid friction or pressure. Not only is friction or pressure painful but any of that can irritate and infect the nipple piercing. Thus, you should avoid wearing tight clothes for a few weeks while the piercing is still fresh. A comfortable sports bra is a must if you are a gal.
5. Keep your piercing clean. Clean your nipple piercing in the shower. Let the warm water wet your nipples completely so you can get all the dirt and crust out of them. Do not forget to clean the jewelry as well. You do not have to remove the jewelry while you wash it and the piercing. Use an antibacterial soap for sensitive skin in washing both the piercing and the jewelry. Avoid over-cleaning your piercing, though. Once a day is enough; too much can be bad, too.
6. See your doctor if there are problems. Your nipple piercing may be infected if it feels warm and sore to the touch, if it looks swollen or if it has yellowish stuff draining from it. When you see this, do not remove the jewelry and do not attempt to clean the piercing. Instead, go see your doctor.
With nipple piercing, you get to give in to expressing a side of you that is brave and willing to try out new experiences, no matter how painful they are. However, you will get to enjoy your new piercings if you take care of them well while they are still healing.
